Mental Health Action Day 2024

May 16th is Mental Health Action Day! Inspiring My Generation has partnered with the National Federation of Families and Active Minds on a special activity for Action Day this year, called Messages of Hope

MESSAGES OF HOPE

On March 24, 2019, our founder, Francesca Reicherter, was hospitalized in a psych ward following her third suicide attempt.

“My room in the psych ward had two beds, plain walls, and small windows you couldn't see out of. The bathroom didn't even have a door, just a curtain. It felt like being in a jail because even the balcony had bars around it. The whole place was dull and it made me feel even worse.”

When someone we care for is in the hospital, we often show up and bring gifts. When someone we care for is hospitalized in the psych ward, the support is often as invisible as the illness. When someone is barely holding on, a familiar face or a note of encouragement can change everything.

“In 2019-2020, I was working on ways to encourage my brain to want to stay alive. So, I started writing an encouragement card for myself every day with a message I needed to hear. 100 cards later, I realized how much it would have meant if I received a card like this when I was in the psych ward. So, I donated them to the psych ward. Since then over 15,000 cards have been donated, created by volunteers nationwide.”

This Mental Health Action Day, we are asking YOU to help us collect messages of hope that Inspiring My Generation will turn into encouragement cards and distribute among our partnered psych wards!
